The air is growing crisp, and the season of gratitude and light is upon us. This year, we invite you to be a part of creating something truly magical for one of Southeast Asia’s most beautiful festivals: Loy Krathong.

The Laotian American Community of Fresno is hosting a special cultural workshop to create handcrafted floral floats for this cherished Lao and Thai ritual, and we need your creative hands!

What is Loy Krathong?

Loy Krathong is a festival of light and gratitude, traditionally celebrated on the evening of the full moon of the twelfth lunar month. People gather at rivers, lakes, and ponds to release beautifully decorated, floating baskets (krathongs) onto the water. This symbolic act is meant to pay respect to the water goddess, wash away the previous year’s misfortunes, and float away negative energy, carrying hopes and wishes for the future.

Your Hands Create the Magic

By volunteering for our workshop, you will be at the heart of this beautiful tradition. You’ll learn to craft stunning krathongs using materials like paper banana leaves, flowers, and candles. More importantly, your handiwork will directly support the LACF’s mission and cultural programs in our community.

Each floral float you create will be sold at our fundraising event, Lotus Pond Sanger on Saturday, November 22, 2025 (from 5-7 PM). All proceeds will benefit LACF’s ongoing efforts to preserve and share our rich cultural heritage.
