Culture and Arts Workshop Recap: Paint Night

Exploring Laos Through Art
We extend our gratitude to all who participated in this month’s Cultural Workshop. With the support of Measure P and Fresno Arts Council, we continue to provide free, culturally-rooted arts programs that foster community connections through tradition, storytelling, and creativity.
This month, we painted Phou Bia, the highest mountain in Laos, symbolizing strength and pride. Although located in a restricted military area in Xaisomboun Province, its majestic beauty serves as a poignant reminder of our ancestral roots in the Annamite Range.
We also painted Dok Champa, the national flower of Laos. Renowned for its sweet fragrance and spiritual symbolism, this flower represents sincerity, joy, resilience, and new beginnings. In Laotian culture, Dok Champa is not only aesthetically pleasing but also a potent symbol of our identity, frequently incorporated in ceremonies, blessings, and welcome garlands.
The evening was further enriched by painting while listening to traditional Lao songs, filling the space with warmth, nostalgia, and cultural pride.
Follow us to stay connected and join us for next month’s cultural workshop!
