Culture and Arts Workshop Recap: Loy Krathong

November 19-20, 2025 | LACF Office

Connecting through traditional crafts, culture, and community.

We hosted a 2 day workshop and invited all ages to hand make Krathong, a floral float used in Lao and Thai rituals for gratitude and forgiveness.

A BIG shoutout to Hoover High’s horticultural students and community members for volunteering with us! With their creative and helping hands, we were able to surpass our goal for the Loy Krathong 🪷 floral floats 🪷

Loy Krathong is a cherished tradition where handcrafted floats (made from banana leaves, flowers, candles, and incense) are released into rivers, lakes, or ponds. This act pays respect to the Naga (mythical water serpents) and water spirits, particularly those of the Mekong River, which sustains vital life for the nearby region. Additionally, the releasing of the floats, lets go of negativity, past misfortunes and brings good fortune for the year ahead.
