$1,000 Scholarship for Incoming and Current College Students
Are you a high school senior or current college student looking for financial assistance to help pay for your education? If so, you may be eligible for a $1,000 scholarship! The annual Laotian-American Community of Fresno scholarship is open to all Lao students from the Central Valley who are planning to attend or are currently attending an accredited college or university.
We are seeking candidates that have demonstrated educational promise, leadership potential, and have contributed to the Laotian community. There will be a total of ten (10) scholarships awarded. Each scholarship is in the amount of $1,000. All ten awardees are asked to attend LACF’s Scholarship Gala and Fundraiser on September 16, 2023.
To be considered for the scholarship, you must submit a completed scholarship application and required documents by July 16, 2023 and meet the requirements outlined below. Awardees are also required to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours with LACF, completion of hours are to be done within 1 year from being awarded.
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:
1. Applicants must have at least one parent of Lao descent.
2. Applicants must be on track to graduate from an accredited high school by June 2023, or a current undergrad or graduate college student attending at least part-time (6 units minimum) at an accredited college/university.
3. Applicants must be a resident of Fresno, Madera, Kings, Tulare, Merced or Stanislaus County. A student attending a college out of the area but their hometown is located in the counties listed are accepted. Recent high school graduates must have graduated from a high school in the counties listed above.
4. Applicants must be in good academic standing and have a minimum GPA of 2.50 (high school transcript and/or a recent unofficial college transcript showing recent class schedule and cumulative GPA is required).
Along with the required documents proving student status and GPA, you must submit a letter of recommendation, a headshot photo, and a 2 page essay.
