A Night of Light & Tradition: Recap of Our Loi Krathong Workshop ๐๐

A heartfelt khob jai to everyone who joined us for this monthโs Arts & Culture Workshop, where we celebrated the beautiful tradition of Loi Krathong!
What is Loi Karthong?
Loi Karthong is a cherished Lao ritual where handcrafted floats (made from banana leaves, flowers, candles, and incense) are released into rivers, lakes, or ponds. This act symbolizes:
- Paying respect to the Naga (mythical water serpents) and water spirits, particularly those of the Mekong River, which sustains Lao life.
- Letting go of negativity and past misfortunes
- Bringing good fortune for the year ahead
Together, we floated into an evening of creativity and cultural connection, crafting vibrant krathongs with paper materials while sharing stories about this cherished ritual. The act of releasing our decorated floats symbolized gratitude to the water, renewal of the spirit, and the enduring bonds of community.
A special thanks to our incredible instructors, Vien and Lin, whose guidance wove cultural wisdom into every fold and petal. Their patience and passion transformed the workshop into a truly meaningful experience for all ages.
